Skype for Business allows you to connect with others via instant messaging, audio and video calling, conferencing, and screensharing.

Open the Skype app on your computer. The Skype icon looks like a white 'S' in a blue circle. If you're not automatically signed into your account, enter your email address, phone number or Skype Name, and your password to log in.

To add a contact in Skype for Business, do the following:

  1. Launch Skype for Business. It is generally located within the Applications folder.
  2. Sign in with your ISU email address (i.e. rredbird@ilstu.edu) and password.
  3. Make sure the Contacts section is selected in the left-hand menu (Figure 1).

Upon first using Skype for Business, your users will automatically see their manager and other people on their team.   • The first time a user logs in, a new group, named My Group, is created. The group is automatically populated with people in the user's AD group relationship based on the user alias populated in the Manager field. Note that changes to the AD group membership do not cause updates to My Group after it is initially populated. If a user deletes a contact or the group, neither the contact nor the group are re-created.

  • If auto tagging is turned on, contacts in the list will be tagged for presence changes. Auto tagging is turned on by default, but you can choose to turn it off.

Troubleshoot

If Smart contacts list is not functioning as expected, check the following:

  • Confirm that the AD organization information is populated.
